I'm not usually one for such shameless self-promotion, but I am thrilled to announce I have an exhibit on display at Ina Centaur's amazing Primtings Sim. I have created five of Max Ernst's surrealist paintings which are now on the display at the Sim. I love Ernst’s work, his version of surrealism speaks to me, and conveys such emotion, even when the canvas is filled with what seems to be a random group of objects. His paintings allow the individual to interpret what the art means to them, and the medium of 3D art lends itself so well to making his art come to life.
I started the project as just something to challenge myself, to see if I could faithfully recreate artwork in SL, and Ernst's unique surrealism was the perfect inspiration. I tried to use as few sculpted prims in these works as possible. I created the majority of the textures by hand, wanting to take as little from the original painting as possible. This project made me feel like a true artist; Not only did I get to build them, to see a once flat piece of art come alive, but I also got to be the painter, lending my own digital brushstrokes to the works.
I was lucky enough to have Tezcatlipoca Bisiani, the talented artist who created the virtual Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks", discover my work as I tinkered away at IBM. I was invited to display my work at the Primtings Sim, and am just so excited and honored to have my work in such a groundbreaking Sim alongside some of Second Life's most talented artists. Please click here for a SLURL to my exhibit, and make sure to explore the rest of the Sim and see how art really can come to life in this virtual world.
